Next stop: A sandy park spreading across the Kiso River floodplain. An open riverside settingAbout this spot
A shrine located in Konomiya, Inazawa City, that has long been worshipped as the chief shrine of the old Owari province. Locals affectionately call it 'Kōnomiya,' and its 'Hadaka Matsuri' (naked festival), held during the old lunar New Year, is known nationwide. The grounds are spacious, and walking the gravel approach that leads from the large torii gate through the gate tower to the main hall, you can feel a quiet stillness settle in. There are plenty of trees around, which is a welcome source of shade even on a midsummer morning. Talking with your kids about the excitement of festival day as you walk makes the grounds feel even bigger. Before heading to the pool, it's worth pressing your hands together and praying for a safe day in the water.
Tips
The grounds are mostly gravel paths, which are hard to push a stroller over, so a baby carrier is reassuring for little ones. There is parking, but it gets crowded on festival days. It's within walking distance of Kōnomiya Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line. It's smoother to check the shrine office's reception hours in advance.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The grounds are quiet and pleasant to stroll through in the less-crowded morning hours
