Yusentei Park (友泉亭公園)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This strolling-style Japanese garden with a pond was developed on the former site of a villa built by the lord of the Fukuoka domain. It is remarkably quiet for being in the middle of the city; walk around the pond and the arrangement of pines, moss, and stones gradually shifts in character. Step up onto the tatami room facing the garden and sit down for a pleasant, breezy moment. Since it is not large in scale, you can tour it in a short time, making it a perfect stop to calm mind and body before heading to the pool in the afternoon.

Tips

The garden is closed on Mondays, so check the day of your visit. The garden has gravel paths and stepping stones, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Since it is a quiet place, it helps to remind small children beforehand to keep their voices down. Things go more smoothly if you have lunch nearby before heading to the pool.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes needed. Good for resting in the shade and on the tatami room during the hot late-morning hours.
