Tadami Museum of Beech Forests and Rivers (Tadami Town Beech Center) (ただみ・ブナと川のミュージアム(只見町 ブナセンター))

Flow of the course

About this spot

A nature museum run by the Tadami Town Beech Center, introducing Tadami's nature, which is registered as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The exhibits center on the beech forests and the Tadami River, showing how the heavy snow of this snowy region nurtures the forest and the river. Many displays, such as a rendering of beech tree roots and the shape trees take to withstand snow, are close to life-size, making them easy for children to engage with. The museum interior is calm and quiet, a good place to spend a hot morning. Once you've learned about Tadami's nature, the surrounding mountains look different when you step back outside.

Tips

Admission requires a fee. The museum has closed days, so check in advance. You can also get information on nearby beech-forest walking trails, so ask at the front desk if you're interested. There's a parking lot, making it an easy spot to visit by car.

Best time to visit

Takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Right after opening there are fewer visitors, so you can take your time.
