Rokugo Spring Water Cluster (六郷湧水群)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A cluster of springs scattered across the Rokugo district of Misato Town, selected by the Ministry of the Environment as one of Japan's 100 Best Waters. Snow and rain that fall on the Ou Mountains flow underground over many years and emerge as clear spring water all over this town. With dozens of springs located throughout the town, it's fascinating just to walk the alleys and come across the sound of flowing water again and again. Some spots are still used by locals as washing areas today, preserving the way this town has lived alongside water. Even in midsummer the water stays cold, and dipping your hand in — surprisingly icy — is the highlight of the experience.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Pool Park Misato. Since this is also a place where people live their daily lives, please be mindful not to pollute the water while visiting. Since you'll be exploring on foot through town, bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and something to drink. A walking map of the springs is sometimes available at the tourist information center, which can help you get around efficiently.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Mornings, before the sun gets strong, are easiest for walking.
