The Yoshinogawa Natsumi Campground Riverside Free Site is a riverside site spread along the banks of the Yoshino River in Natsumi, Yoshino Town, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture. The seasonal operating period runs from Marine Day through the end of August, on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and the Obon period; Marine Day in 2026 falls on July 20. This is a spot worth planning around a summer weekend. The riverbank faces directly onto the Yoshino River, and since the shallows and gentle currents suited to families continue along the bank, even small children can dip their feet and play by choosing spots with less depth. Since you can unload your gear right next to your parking spot, families can bring a tarp and chairs and settle onto the riverbank, covering play, rest, and meals all in one place — a major advantage. Flush toilets with heated seats are another reassuring point not to overlook for families with small children. The free site's usage hours run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, designed so you can spend a relaxed day from morning to evening and pack up and head home while it's still light out.

Since a usage fee applies to the Riverside Free Site (parking included), be sure to check the amount on the official website's pricing information before heading out — this is not a riverbank you can visit for free. It operates only on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and the Obon period during the season, so also confirm the dates. The riverbed has a lot of stones, so water shoes are the safer choice. The Yoshino River can rise suddenly if there's rain upstream, so be sure to check the day's weather and any local announcements, and keep a close eye on children at all times. There's little shade on the riverbank, so bringing a tarp makes a big difference in comfort during your stay.

Best time to visit

Arriving around noon lets you get in the water during the warm, high-sun hours, with plenty of time to pack up before the 6:00 PM closing
