Next stop: Free swimming in a gentle stream, plus a slide and a shallow paddling poolAbout this spot
This is a concrete suspension bridge with a graceful arch, spanning the reservoir of Hattabara Dam, which dams the Ashida River. With its clean design that has no main towers, the sight of the white bridge stretching straight across the deep green lake surface is beautiful enough to make you stop and look. The dam itself is also large, and it's a good spot to explain to children how it stores water and protects life downstream. The foot of this dam is where you'll play at Kawasakyo in the afternoon.
Tips
Viewing is free. It's a short walk from the parking lot to the bridge's viewing spot, but summer sun is strong, so bring a hat. Please do not go beyond the fences around the bridge and dam. From here it's a short drive to Kawasakyo.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes needed. In the afternoon, when light reflects off the lake surface, the water appears deeper in color.
