About this spot
The Kawasakyo River Play Area is a gorge spreading at the foot of Hattabara Dam, on the upper Ashida River. The riverbank has a stream shaped from natural rocks, giving it a gentle current, which is a big feature that makes it easy even for families unfamiliar with river play to get in. Swimming itself is free to enjoy. In summer, a water slide appears, with unlimited sliding for 550 yen per day. There's also a shallow paddling pool for small children, so siblings of different ages can each play in their own spot. It's also equipped with a campsite, a park golf course (18 holes), a summer-only shop, a restroom / shower building, and a changing room with lockers, so there's no need to worry about changing clothes or cleanup. It's located at 3261-3 Moroge-cho, Fuchu-shi, Hiroshima, and managed by the Kawasakyo Management Office (0847-49-0344).
Season & hours

Date & time: 2026年7月18日 (Sat)の川開きからlate Augustまで(この期間は無休)。施設自体は通年営業で水曜定休
Venue: 府中市・河佐峡
Tips
In 2026, the river-play season runs from the river opening on Saturday, July 18 through the end of August, with no closed days during that period (the facility itself is open year-round, closed on Wednesdays). Day camping is 1,100 yen per site (9:00-16:00, up to 10 people), overnight camping is 2,200 yen per site (13:00 to noon the next day), and hot showers are 100 yen per 3 minutes. It's handy to have small change ready for the slide and shower fees. Even though there's a dam upstream, water volume can increase after rain, so it's reassuring to check the day's conditions with the management office. If using the day camp, you'll need to pack up by 16:00.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 30 minutes needed. Entering the water from around 2pm, once the water has warmed up, is comfortable.
