About this spot
Along the Hakone Old Tokaido (between Hatajuku and Moto-Hakone), the area around the thatched-roof Amazake Teahouse, which has stood since the Edo period for about 400 years, is a highlight for autumn leaves. The best viewing is usually from late October to mid-November. Red maple leaves flutter down onto the teahouse roof, and together with the stone-paved Old Tokaido, you can experience the feeling of an Edo-period traveler. At the teahouse, you can take a break with the famous amazake, made only from rice malt, and chikara-mochi.
