Yofuku-ji Temple Ruins (永福寺跡)
Flow of the course
About this spot
The ruins of a temple built by Minamoto no Yoritomo (源頼朝) in 1192, designated a national historic site as a representative relic of the Kamakura period. It has been restored and developed as a park that makes use of the historic site, allowing visitors to see the original layout of the temple buildings and the garden pond. The spacious lawn and area around the pond feel open and relaxing, making it a perfect spot for a break before your mountain walk. It's also a fun place to walk with children while talking about how a temple stood here 800 years ago.
Tips
Admission is free. It's about a 5-minute walk from Kamakura-gu Shrine. Opening hours vary by season, so it's a good idea to check with the City of Kamakura's information beforehand.
