Zuisen-ji Temple (瑞泉寺)
Flow of the course
About this spot
Standing in a valley known as Momijigayatsu (Maple Valley), this ancient temple is famous as the place with Kamakura's latest autumn foliage. The best viewing season is typically from early to late December. The maples in the temple grounds and valley turn color, and here alone you can enjoy them together with the rock garden (a Place of Scenic Beauty) carved by the priest Muso Kokushi, the only one remaining from the Kamakura period. The garden, carved directly into the rock face, is sure to leave an impression on children as a rock garden. In the quiet valley of December, you can leisurely savor the autumn leaves that mark the close of the year.
