About this spot

This is a period-limited extended evening operation of the cable car connecting Oyama Cable Station (大山ケーブル駅) and Afuri Jinja Station (阿夫利神社駅), mainly on weekends and holidays in January. In 2026 it runs on seven days: January 10-12, 17-18, and 24-25, extending the usual closing time of 16:30-17:00 to 19:00 (upward tickets are sold until 18:45, with departures every 20 minutes). Fares are 640 yen one-way for adults and 320 yen for children, or 1,270 yen round-trip for adults and 640 yen for children. From the cable car window after sunset and from the grounds of Oyama Afuri Shrine Lower Shrine (大山阿夫利神社下社), you can take in a sweeping view of the city lights spreading across the Kanto Plain (関東平野).

The schedule for the winter 2027 night view operation has not yet been announced. Since it is typically held mainly on weekends and holidays in January, please check the official website for the dates before you go. The night view operation may be cancelled due to weather, so check the official website for the day's operating status before heading out. The last cable car of the night tends to be crowded, so for families with children it is more reassuring to take one a little earlier.

Best time to visit

After sunset, around 5 pm. The view from the window is most photogenic while some blue still remains in the sky.
