About this spot

A public observatory built along the Shimanto River, located within an area certified as a former Environment Agency Starry Sky Town. In addition to observation through the dome reflecting telescope, visitors can also go down to the riverbank to view the Milky Way with the naked eye. Explanations are provided by Seido attendants.

Tips

Advance phone reservation by the day before is required (Hotel Seira Shimanto, 0880-52-2225). Closed on Wednesdays; arrivals after 20:00 may not be accommodated, so please be punctual. Fees are 520 yen for adults, 300 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and free for infants.
