About this spot
A vast Japanese garden opened to the public at the end of the Meiji era by industrialist Sankeien Hara, and designated as a nationally designated scenic beauty. Historic structures including a three-story pagoda relocated from Kyoto and Kamakura blend harmoniously with seasonal flowers and grasses. Simply walking along the pond's edge soothes the heart. With plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, early summer irises, and autumn foliage, this one of Yokohama's finest gardens is picturesque whenever you visit.
Tips
The garden has many gravel paths, so baby carriers are easier to navigate than strollers. Taking a break for dumplings at the teahouse by the pond helps keep children entertained throughout the visit.
Best time to visit
Allow 2.5 hours. The early morning hours right after opening are quiet and less crowded.
