Picnic Lunch at the Central Plaza and Tour the D51 Steam Locomotive
About this spot
Kawasaki's largest nature park preserving the natural landscape of the Tama Hills. The grassy central plaza is perfect for picnicking, and nearby sits an actual D51 steam locomotive and passenger cars on display—much to the delight of train-loving children. From the museum to the science center, you can stroll leisurely through a tree-lined woodland path with dappled sunlight.
Tips
There are few shops in the park, so it's best to prepare your lunch near Noboru Station or Mukaigaoka Yuen Station. The central plaza has restrooms, vending machines, and shaded benches nearby.
Best time to visit
Allow 1 hour; the grassy area is easier to find space on before noon.
