Stroll along the seaside promenade and search for creatures in the rocky tidepools
About this spot
One of the prefecture's finest seaside spots, where the entire promontory jutting into Tokyo Bay has become a park. In addition to sandy beaches, rocky shores, and grassy lawns, remnants of old Japanese military gun emplacements and tunnels invite adventurous exploration—a huge hit with children. From the promenade, large ships pass right before your eyes, keeping ship-loving kids mesmerized.
Tips
For tidepooling, marine shoes and a change of clothes are essential. Strollers are comfortable on the garden paths along the coast, but a baby carrier is safer for exploring rocky areas and gun emplacements.
Best time to visit
Allow 1 hour; the rocky shore is least crowded early in the morning, making it ideal for creature hunting
