Mini-hike with family through a stone-walled mountain castle and scenic overlook
About this spot
Ruins of a Sengoku period mountain castle selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Castles. Restored magnificent stone walls and the mystical circular pond known as Hinokiku (日ノ池) remain, and from the Nitta Shrine at the main keep summit, you can see the Kanto Plain in its entirety. It's about a 20-minute pleasant hike from the parking lot below the observation deck to the main keep.
Tips
From the mountain-top parking lot onward, stone-paved paths and stairs continue, so a baby carrier is safer than a stroller. Sneakers are essential, and don't forget water in summer.
Best time to visit
Allow 1-1.5 hours. The view is best on clear days.
