Take a Break with Highland Lunch and the Famous Soft-Serve Ice Cream
About this spot
A gift shop and dining hall at the entrance of the prefectural Asama Pasture that spreads out at the gateway to Kita-Karuizawa. The soft-serve ice cream, known for its rich, creamy milk flavor, is a must-try specialty. The dining hall offers set meals using highland vegetables, and walking trails lead from behind the teahouse into the pasture. You can even take a light hike toward Tenmaruyama to work off lunch.
Tips
During peak season around noon, it can get crowded, so dining just before or after the 12 o'clock hour will be smoother. The parking lot is free and spacious; save the soft-serve ice cream as your post-meal treat.
Best time to visit
Allow 60 minutes; busy during peak lunch hours
