About this spot

A cliff face lined with pillar-like rock formations stretching for about a kilometer, one of the Hokuriku region's finest scenic spots and designated a National Natural Monument. The power of the Sea of Japan seen from atop the cliffs is impressive, and boarding a sightseeing boat lets you enjoy a sweeping panorama looking up at the cliffs from the water, which is hugely satisfying for boat-loving kids too. The rocky terrain is left in its natural state, so walking around feels like a little exploration. The shopping street leading from the entrance is lined with shops selling seafood rice bowls and grilled squid, offering a lunch unique to this port town.

Tips

The rocky area has no fences and uneven footing, so always hold your child's hand and stay away from the cliff edge. The sightseeing boat may be canceled if the waves are high, so check the day's operating status before lining up. Lunch spots in the shopping street get crowded around midday, so it's smoother to arrive a bit early.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 50 minutes, including the sightseeing boat and lunch. In the morning, you're less likely to be shooting into the sun, so photos come out nicer.
