Cross the vermillion Ojima Bridge and stroll the walking path that circles the island known as the Island of Gods

About this spot

An island floating north of Tojinbo, long revered as the "Island of Gods." Walking across the vermillion Ojima Bridge (雄島橋) that extends straight into the sea feels like a small adventure in itself. The island is home to Ominato Shrine (大湊神社), with a well-maintained walking path that circles the island through lush evergreen forest. The rocky shoreline displays columnar formations identical to those at Tojinbo, as well as layered rock formations perfect for nature observation during your stroll.

Tips

The island's walking path features stone steps and rocky sections, making it unsuitable for strollers. Bring a baby carrier and wear comfortable walking shoes. The complete loop takes 30-40 minutes; on windy days, avoid areas near rocks along the seashore. A parking lot is available at the bridge entrance.

Best time to visit

Takes about 1 hour 10 minutes. Early afternoon is when the sea's blue color is most vibrant.
