Leisurely Visit the Palace Architecture and Gardens of the Imperial Villa Surrounded by Pine Groves

About this spot

A site where the former Imperial Villa grounds, built during the Meiji period as a retreat for the Imperial family, are now open to the public as a park with gardens and historic architecture. The pine-surrounded grounds preserve traditional Japanese palace buildings where you can remove your shoes and leisurely view furnishings and rooms that convey the lifestyle of that era. The view of the gardens and pine groves from the corridor windows is quiet and serene, a stark contrast to the bustling port. The spacious grounds are pleasant for walks, making it a perfect peaceful spot to spend time after your food walk.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Numazu Port with parking available. Park admission and viewing of the West Attached Villa are bundled at around 420 yen for adults. Since you remove shoes to enter the buildings, easy-to-remove footwear ensures smooth movement. The grounds have many gravel paths, so choose stroller-friendly routes. The gift shop has a rest area where you can take a break.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. In the afternoon, visitor traffic settles down, allowing quiet enjoyment of the gardens.
