About this spot

The base of operations for Oigawa Railway's (大井川鐵道) steam locomotives, a station with a retro wooden station building dating back to the Taisho era. The yard has a turntable and rolling stock depot, letting you get a close look at steam locomotives under maintenance and old-fashioned passenger cars. Plaza Loco (プラザロコ) in front of the station has a railway goods shop and a display of an old locomotive, making it a spot that captures railway fans' hearts even before boarding. On operating days, both adults and children are riveted by the sight of the SL departing with its whistle sounding.

Tips

The SL train's operating days and route can change, so if you want to ride, check the latest operating information and reservation status in advance. There's a paid parking lot in front of the station, which is also convenient for switching from driving to a train journey.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The busiest time is just before the SL departs.
