About this spot

A mountain terminal that's both the end of the Oigawa Main Line and the starting station of the South Alps Abt Line (南アルプスあぷとライン) heading to Oku-Oi. Old-fashioned rolling stock is parked in the spacious yard, and just gazing at the platform is a treat for railway fans. Around the station are shops selling bento lunch boxes and tea, with soft-serve ice cream made from the local specialty, Kawane tea (川根茶), also popular. Fuel up properly here in preparation for the remote railway section ahead.

Tips

The Abt Line has infrequent service, so check the connecting train times first before eating or shopping for souvenirs. The area around the station is flat, making it easy to get around with a stroller.
