Experience the awe-inspiring power of a massive dam and water spray up close
About this spot
A large multipurpose dam built on the middle reaches of the Ōigawa River, offering breathtaking views of the towering structure. During water release, a white curtain of water cascades down, and you may feel the spray from the suspension bridge on the downstream side. Easily accessible on foot from Nagashima Dam Station on the Apto Line, making it convenient to combine with your railway journey. An exhibition facility teaches visitors about how dams work, offering ideas for children's research projects.
Tips
Wear comfortable shoes as there is an uphill path from the station to the dam. Viewing is free. The apto-style section of the Apto Line was constructed to climb the steep grades created by this dam's construction; some stations offer views of the locomotive coupling.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 40 minutes. Visit during daylight hours to fully appreciate the dam's impressive scale.
