About this spot
A iconic 33-meter waterfall selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Waterfalls, Minoh's symbol. The path extends close to the falls, allowing you to experience the thundering roar and spray in full force—a reward well-deserved after 2.8 km of hiking. A plaza with benches fronts the falls, and the local tradition is to buy the famous 'fried maple leaf tempura' at the nearby shop and savor it while taking in the waterfall view. The sweet-coated fried maple leaves have a simple flavor reminiscent of a Japanese sweet cracker and are popular as souvenirs. While autumn is famous for its fiery foliage against the falls, the brilliant fresh green of early summer and the cool refreshment of mid-summer each have their own charm. After absorbing plenty of negative ions, be sure to capture a commemorative photo with friends against the waterfall backdrop.
Tips
About 40-50 minutes' walk from Minoh Station along the trail. During peak foliage season weekends, the area before the falls becomes extremely crowded, so arriving before noon is recommended. For cars, the Daini parking lot upstream of the falls is the nearest, though spaces are limited. There are restrooms and a shop at the falls, with fried maple leaf tempura starting at a few hundred yen, so having small change is convenient.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours. Around midday, sunlight hits the falls and the spray glimmers beautifully.
