Take the monorail to the viewpoint, experience the spectacular flying dragon view and try the viewing-between-the-legs pose

About this spot

This observation facility stands atop Mount Monju on the south side of Amanohashidate, and from this vantage point, the sandbar resembles a dragon ascending to heaven, earning it the name "flying dragon view." From the base, a 6-7 minute aerial journey via monorail or lift takes you to the summit. On the way up, the sea and cityscape of Miyazu spread out below, and the spectacular views begin even before arrival. The mountaintop features retro and charming rides including a Ferris wheel and cycle cars, allowing families to enjoy both the views of one of Japan's three scenic spots and a small amusement park at once. Walking around the "flying dragon view corridor," which juts out into the sky in the shape of a dragon, lets you experience the grand panorama of white sandbar and blue sea with your whole body. Challenge the famous viewing-between-the-legs platform to see Amanohashidate upside down, and both grandparents and grandchildren will naturally break into smiles.

Tips

The boarding station is about a 5-minute walk from Amanohashidate Station. You can choose between a lift and monorail going up; the monorail is recommended for small children, elderly grandparents, and stroller users as you can sit while ascending (check the operating schedule for intervals). The boarding area tends to get crowded before lunch during holidays, so arriving early in the morning is recommended. Admission includes entry and round-trip lift or monorail.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1.5 hours. Clear morning air brings out the flying dragon view in sharp detail, and you'll also avoid crowding at the boarding area.
