Sample spring water at the celebrated water collection point—filling bottles to take home is a standard souvenir

About this spot

Spring water selected in the Environmental Ministry's hundred celebrated waters list and representative of Dorogawa, named for the 'gorogo' sound the water makes echoing through the stalactite cave's rocky crevices. This water has filtered through limestone layers over long ages, acquiring a mellow flavor with calcium content. A sip on the spot will refresh you and wash away your gorge-hiking fatigue with its cool clarity. The collection point features rows of taps for filling, and locals as well as distant fans regularly bring large plastic containers to collect water. Filling empty bottles to take home and brewing coffee or tea later to extend your trip memories is a standard Dorogawa souvenir tradition. Comparing impressions with friends as you taste and discuss the water is an enjoyable detour.

Tips

The collection point is a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive from Dorogawa Hot Spring Town. By car, you'll need to pay a parking fee (water collection cooperation fee) and can fill your bottles right from the tap. If walking, don't forget empty plastic bottles or water bottles. Weekend afternoons can mean waiting in line, so allow extra time.

Best time to visit

Approximately 30 minutes required. Stopping by on the way back from the stalactite cave works smoothly
