Enjoy a Break During Your Drive to View Mountains Reflected in the Dam Lake
About this spot
A prefectural arch-type dam that impounds the middle reaches of the Aridagawa River, creating a tranquil lake nestled in the mountains. National Route 480, which leads to Aragi Island, runs along the lake's shore, where green mountains mirror perfectly on the water's surface—ideal for a refreshing break during your drive. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom along the shore, making it a beloved flower-viewing spot. Stop the car, breathe in the breeze crossing the water, and let grandparents recharge during the journey. Seeing the massive dam structure up close is an added bonus for children who love big engineering feats. This is also a good spot to take a break before tackling the winding mountain roads ahead, ideal for addressing any car sickness and restroom needs.
Tips
Located along Route 480 heading toward Aragi Island from Aridagawa Railway Park. You can park along the lakeside and enjoy the view. It's better suited for a brief stop than a long stay. Spring cherry blossoms along the shore are especially beautiful. The road beyond here is winding and mountainous, so let children get some fresh air during the break if they're prone to car sickness, and use the restroom early.
Best time to visit
Plan about 30 minutes. A brief rest stop during your drive. Spring cherry blossoms along the shore are especially recommended.
