Take the two-person lift to the top of the ski jump and enjoy a panoramic view of Sapporo

About this spot

A still-active ski jumping venue that hosted the large-hill event during the Sapporo Winter Olympics. A two-person lift takes you to the summit of the jump, where an observation lounge at approximately 300 meters elevation offers panoramic views of Sapporo's cityscape, Ishikari Plain, and even distant Ishikari Bay. Standing near the athletes' starting gate and looking down the steep slope will make your feet quail and let you experience just how impressive the jumpers truly are. The Sapporo Olympic Museum at the base offers hands-on simulations of ski jumping and bobsled, wildly popular with active children. A uniquely Sapporo spot combining a competitive shrine with breathtaking views.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from Sapporo Maruyama Zoo; free parking available. By bus: take Bankei Bus from Maruyama-koen Station to Okura-yama Kyogijo-iriguchi stop, then about a 10-minute walk. A round-trip lift ride costs around ¥1,000 for adults; the lift may close on competition or official practice days, so check in advance. The mountaintop can be windy and cold, so don't forget a jacket for your child.

Best time to visit

Takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Afternoon when the air is crisp gives clear city views. Early evening tends to be less crowded.
