About this spot

A facility that displays the Tachineputa, the float that colors Goshogawara's summer, year-round, with a giant float about 23 meters tall and roughly 19 tons standing in an atrium exhibition hall. The clever design lets you take an elevator to the top and view the float as you descend a spiral ramp, allowing you to see the heroic warrior paintings up close from every height, from head to feet. The float on display is an active one that actually goes out into the city streets during the real festival, and the scale and vividness of color when you look up at it are simply overwhelming. The building also houses a workshop where new Tachineputa are made, and you may get to see craftsmen at work. Just a short walk from Tsugaru-Goshogawara Station, it's a symbol of Goshogawara befitting the starting point of a Tsugaru Railway journey.

Tips

About a 5-minute walk from Tsugaru-Goshogawara Station and JR Goshogawara Station. The exhibition hall is centered around a spiral ramp, making it easy to visit even with a stroller or for those with limited mobility. Photography is allowed inside, so don't forget your camera. There's also a shop on the 1st floor, convenient for finding Tachineputa-themed souvenirs.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. It's uncrowded in the morning right after opening, letting you take your time looking up at the giant float
