Take a Family Photo with the Single Cherry Tree Standing in the Pasture Against Mt. Iwate
About this spot
A magnificent Edo-higan cherry tree standing alone in the vast pasture of Koiwai Farm. It is said to have been planted as a shade tree for cattle to escape the summer sun, and its age is believed to exceed 100 years. Standing proudly against the snow-capped Mt. Iwate in the background, it looks like a masterpiece painting. It became famous nationwide after appearing in a TV drama opening. The charm of this tree is that it shows a completely different appearance with each season: blooming in spring, shimmering green in summer, golden pasture in autumn, and silver-white in winter. The viewing style is from a roadside observation space looking across the pasture, so it's easy to visit even with small children. Just a short drive from Makiba Garden, it's a classic family photo spot.
Tips
About 5 minutes by car from Makiba Garden, with parking and observation areas set up along the prefectural road. The pasture is farm property, so do not enter the field—view and photograph from outside the fence. During cherry blossom season, the parking area becomes very crowded, so allow extra time.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 30 minutes. Daytime with clear skies showing Mt. Iwate is best for photography. During cherry blossom season, early morning hours are relatively less crowded.
