A Panoramic Viewpoint: Overlooking the Bridge and Island-Dotted Seascape, with Trains Running Below
About this spot
From the observation platform atop Washio Mountain, a representative scenic spot of the Seto Inland Sea National Park, you can take in a magnificent panorama of the approximately 9.4-kilometer-long Seto Ohashi Bridge extending across islands toward Shikoku. Below spreads the island-dotted beauty of the Shiokaki Archipelago, and vehicles and trains running on the bridge appear as small as toys from this height—a delightful sight for transportation enthusiasts. The contrast between gazing up at the bridge from the ship earlier and now looking down on it from this elevated perspective embodies the unique appeal of this course. A walking path leads to the summit's Kansho Peak, and a visitor center introducing the Seto Inland Sea's natural environment allows you to enjoy changing vistas as you stroll.
Tips
It's a short walk along a nature trail from the parking lot to the observation platform. If you venture to the Kansho Peak at the summit, wear comfortable walking shoes. As the viewing area is exposed, don't forget a hat and water bottle on sunny days.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required. Mid-morning offers perfect lighting, with the sea's blue color standing out and the bridge and islands visible with striking clarity.
