Stone-Stepped Hike to Shikoku's Easternmost Lighthouse, Panoramic Views of the Kii Channel
About this spot
A cape at the eastern tip of the Muroto Anan Kaigan Quasi-National Park and Shikoku's easternmost point. From the parking lot to the lighthouse is approximately a 10-minute mini-hike on a stone-stepped walking trail. From around the white Gamodamaki Cape Lighthouse standing on a hilltop, the Kii Channel spreads before you, and on clear days you can see across to Awaji Island and the mountain ranges toward Wakayama. At the base of the coast is a monument called "Poem of Waves" shaped like a frame cutting the horizon, a standard spot for commemorative photos. The nearby Gamodamaki Coast is known as a natural, abundant beach where loggerhead sea turtles come to nest.
Tips
From the parking lot to the lighthouse, the walking trail is mainly stone steps—sneakers are essential. The cape's tip experiences strong winds on most days, so be careful not to lose your hat. The road in the peninsula area has sections with narrow lanes, so be mindful of oncoming traffic and drive slowly.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. On clear mornings with crisp air, visibility across the Kii Channel is excellent
