A beautiful sandy beach about 500 meters long spreading right before the Hiwasa Sea Turtle Museum Caretta. Designated as a national natural monument as a beach where red sea turtles come ashore to nest, it is also selected as one of 'Japan's Best 100 Beaches.' The fine sandy beach, pine forest, and arc-shaped coastline created by the promontories on both ends combine to create beauty that seems to ease the heart as you walk. As you stroll along the sandy beach recalling the sea turtle story you just learned at the museum, the image of turtles coming ashore on this beach will come to mind. Searching for shells along the waterline or leaving footprints in the sand makes a family beach walk a special time.
Tips
To protect the nesting grounds, driving vehicles onto the sand and removing sand are prohibited. This is not a beach for swimming, so enjoy the area along the waterline only. From summer evenings onward, access may be restricted to protect nesting.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes required. In the afternoon, the sunlight softens and a beach walk is pleasant.
