A rest stop developed as a port exchange center at Yawatahama Port, with Doya Market (a fresh fish market) and Agora Marche (a specialty goods hall) side by side. At Doya Market, fresh fish unloaded at Yawatahama Port, which boasts one of Shikoku's largest catches, line up at surprisingly reasonable prices. Specialty items like jako-ten (deep-fried fish cake) and kamaboko, as well as dried shirasu from the Uwa Sea and other seafood gifts are all available. Agora Marche has an abundance of Nishi-Uwa mandarin orange juice and citrus sweets, allowing you to enjoy shopping that's characteristic of Ehime, the Citrus Kingdom. Gazing at the port at dusk from the lawn plaza, you can slowly savor the lingering impressions of a full day's drive through the peninsula.
Tips
If buying fresh fish, it's reassuring to have a cooler bag or ice packs. At the market, you can also obtain styrofoam boxes. Fish can become scarce in the evening, so if you have a specific fish in mind, arriving early is recommended.
Best time to visit
Plan for about 50 minutes. While open in the evening, fresh fish selection is most abundant in earlier hours.
