Next stop: A stroll on the wide riverbank, feeling the miracle clear stream up closeAbout this spot
A submersible bridge spanning the border between Ino-cho (いの町) and Hidaka-mura (日高村), the farthest downstream on the Niyodo River. At about 191 meters long, it's among the longest submersible bridges spanning the Niyodo River. Its distinctive lack of railings, designed so the bridge sinks beneath the river during floods, is a structure meant to keep drifting logs and debris from catching on it, a piece of the wisdom of a life lived alongside the river. It remains an active local road today, with local cars slowly crossing back and forth. Standing on the bridge, an unobstructed view opens up to reveal the clear blue river surface and green mountains, letting you feel with your whole body the grandeur of the Niyodo River, known as the miracle clear stream.
Tips
The bridge is narrow and cars also use it, so when walking across, yield to traffic at the passing bays. There are a few parking spaces at the foot of the bridge. Since there are no railings, hold hands with small children, and take extra care on windy days.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. In the afternoon the sparkle on the river surface is beautiful, and even a leisurely round trip lets you take it all in.
