About this spot

A riverside park at the foot of the Niyodo River Bridge, spread out in Namikawa, Ino-cho (いの町波川). Flowing right in front of you is the main stream of the Niyodo River, boasting some of the best water quality in Japan. Spacious lawns and riverbank stretch on, and you can walk down to the water's edge to touch the clear current directly. In the shallows the water is clear enough to see the stones on the riverbed distinctly, and depending on the light, the surface can even shine emerald green. It's a place of rest beloved by locals, where simply sitting on the bank and gazing at the river is enough to ease your mind. The scenery woven together by the mountains on the far bank and the leisurely flow is full of the tranquility characteristic of the Niyodo River basin.

Tips

With parking and restrooms available, it's easy to stop by casually. The riverbank has stony areas where footing can be unstable, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Near the water, stay away from spots with fast currents, and it's reassuring to have a towel on hand in case you get wet.

Best time to visit

About 60 minutes. When the afternoon light makes the river surface sparkle, it's a pleasant time for a stroll.
