Ino-cho Paper Museum (いの町紙の博物館)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A museum standing in the center of Ino-cho (いの町), the home of Tosa washi paper, conveying the history and craftsmanship of washi. With a tradition of over a thousand years, Tosa washi is known for being thin yet durable, and among its varieties, Tosa Tengujoshi (土佐典具帖紙) is so thin it's described as 'a mayfly's wing.' Inside, alongside displays of papermaking tools and materials, there are days when you can watch craftsmen demonstrate hand papermaking, and at the papermaking experience corner you can scoop your own sheet of washi. The museum shop is stocked with quality souvenirs such as washi stationery and small goods, making it a perfect way to end the trip. You can immerse yourself fully in the depth of the paper culture nurtured by the clear Niyodo River.

Tips

If visiting in the evening, allow enough time before closing. If you want to try the papermaking experience inside, check the reception hours beforehand. The washi products at the museum shop are light and don't take up much space, making them easy to hand out as souvenirs.

Best time to visit

About 70 minutes. To browse the exhibits and shop at a relaxed pace, arriving at least 1.5 hours before closing is recommended.
