Morning Scenic Photo Spot: A Bridge With No Railings Stretching Straight Across the Niyodo River
About this spot
This 121-meter-long submerged bridge spans the Niyodo River and is characterized by its lack of railings, designed to submerge during high water levels. From atop the bridge, you can take in a panoramic view of the clear Niyodo River's flow and the mountain village scenery of Kamaide, a landscape that has inspired films and anime. Looking down from the high ground on the opposite bank reveals a timeless Japanese landscape composition of the winding river, bridge, and settlement that captivates many photography enthusiasts. Still used as a local road today, the sight itself—where the clear stream and mountain village life coexist—is the true attraction.
Tips
There is parking space for a few vehicles at the bridge entrance. Since it remains an active local road, watch for vehicle traffic. With no railings, be careful not to lean too far toward the river when on the bridge. Don't forget to capture photographs from the opposite high ground for aerial shots.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 40 minutes. Morning mist often lingers on the river, and angled sunlight makes the submerged bridge particularly photogenic.
