Encounter the Ultimate Niyodo Blue at Suisho Gorge, Transparent as a Jewel
About this spot
Also called the "Holy Land of Niyodo Blue," this gorge stretches approximately 10 kilometers along the Agoi River. The supreme attraction is Suisho Gorge deep along the trail. The water is so transparent despite its depth that you can count stones on the riverbed, and the water surface glows in deep blue when light hits it—a beauty that takes your breath away. Along the way, you'll find attractions like Hiryu Falls flowing down the rock face like white fabric, and the spacious Otome Riverbed. With each step, the gorge's character changes. In this separate world where deep forest and clear stream intertwine, you'll lose track of time, mesmerized by the blue of the water—the highlight of the latter part of the course.
Tips
The road along the gorge has sections with narrow width, so drive carefully. Parking spaces are available near Horaiso and elsewhere. Wear comfortable walking shoes as you'll walk along the river path. Rocks near the water's edge are slippery, so be very careful when leaning in for a closer look.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 2 hours. When the sun is high, light reaches Suisho Gorge, and the blue's transparency is most vivid.
