About this spot

A cafe run by a tea farming family in Ikegawa (池川), Niyodo-gawa Town, an area known for tea production; its sweets made with home-grown tea leaves are well regarded. The signature item is the tea-field pudding, its charming appearance inspired by the rows of a tea field. It comes in two flavors, kabusecha and hojicha, and as you eat it, the aroma and gentle bitterness of the tea blend softly with the richness of the milk. On the terrace seating overlooking the Doi River (土居川), you can enjoy tea time wrapped in the murmur of the river and the green of the mountains, a perfect break between stretches of gorge walking. Parfaits and drinks are also available, and buying Ikegawa tea as a souvenir is recommended too.

Tips

The terrace seating is popular, and you may have to wait around lunchtime on weekends. The popular tea-field pudding sometimes sells out, so stopping by earlier is reassuring. Cashless payment isn't always available in the mountains, so it's a good idea to bring cash.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. In the early afternoon, the terrace seating catches a pleasant river breeze, just right for soothing the tiredness of gorge walking.
