A museum dedicated to Sakamoto Ryoma, a hero of the late Edo period, situated on a hilltop overlooking Katsurahama. The facility consists of a glass-walled new wing and a boldly designed main building that appears to jut into the sky. Featuring Ryoma's handwritten letters and exhibits that help visitors of all ages understand key events of the late Edo period, the museum allows families to trace Ryoma's entire life. A "Handshake Ryoma statue" (シェイクハンド龍馬像) welcomes you at the entrance, and from the rooftop observation deck, you can take in the full vista of the Pacific's horizon. Gazing at the vast ocean that Ryoma loved will build anticipation for your journey to Katsurahama. Admission is free for anyone under 18, making it an ideal destination for families.
Tips
A free parking lot is available in front of the museum. The museum is relatively uncrowded right after opening, allowing for leisurely viewing. You can also descend to Katsurahama via a walking trail, though if driving, move to the Katsurahama Park parking lot (paid parking).
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes required. Right after opening, crowds are lighter, allowing you to enjoy the exhibits and rooftop views at a relaxed pace.
