Watch Gokun Umaji Village Being Born Through Glass Viewing Corridors
About this spot
This factory is the heart of Umaji Village's successful community revitalization through yuzu processing. JA Umaji Village's 'Yuzu Forest' houses the production lines for 'Gokun Umaji Village'—a honey-infused yuzu drink—and 'Yuzu no Mura' ponzu sauce. You can freely observe the filling and packaging processes through glass-walled viewing corridors. The sight of bottles flowing down the line in succession is simply spectacular. The adjoining direct sales shop offers a selection that only a factory can provide. This is the highlight of the course, where you can experience with all five senses—sight, sound, and smell—the story of how a small mountain village has built a nationwide following with yuzu alone.
Tips
Viewing is free and accessible, but production lines typically operate on weekdays. Lines may be idle on weekends, so visit on a weekday if you want to see operations. Roads in the village are narrow in places, so drive carefully. Be sure to check out the limited-edition items in the direct sales shop.
Best time to visit
Approximately 50 minutes. Weekday daytime when production lines are running is the best time for viewing.
