A World Authorized by the Monet Foundation: Strolling Through Water Lilies and Flower Gardens
About this spot
This garden recreates the masterpiece garden created by Impressionist legend Claude Monet in Giverny, France, and is the world's only place officially authorized by the Monet Foundation to bear the name 'Monet's Garden.' A green arched bridge spans the 'Water Garden' where water lilies float, creating a scene as if you've stepped into a painting. The 'Flower Garden' on the hillside showcases seasonal blooms arranged like paint on an artist's palette, while the 'Bordighere Garden' evokes Mediterranean landscapes with its lush subtropical vegetation. The grounds feature a café and shop, allowing you to slowly experience the Tosa-flavored world of Monet with the yuzu-producing mountains of Kitagawa Village as borrowed scenery.
Tips
The grounds are hilly, and a full circuit takes over an hour of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. The flower garden has little shade, so bring a hat and water for comfort. The café is tempting, but it's recommended to keep it light on this course and save your appetite for the yuzu lunch in Umaji Village.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Mid-morning when the water lilies are in bloom is the best time to view the water garden.
