Next stop: A Scenic Hill Overlooking the White Windmill and Yobuko BridgeAbout this spot
A cable-stayed bridge shaped like a white harp, spanning the Genkai Sea to link the town of Yobuko with Kabeshima Island (加部島). Its elegant silhouette, with cables strung from the main tower like harp strings, is a symbol of Yobuko, and the sight of the white bridge set against blue sea and sky is beautiful enough to make you look back again and again during the drive. From the bridge you can look out over Yobuko's harbor and the Genkai Sea, and the exhilaration of crossing above the water is something special. Kabeshima, the island on the far side, is a peaceful island with pastoral scenery along its shore. There are spots near the foot of the bridge where you can park and take commemorative photos looking up at the white bridge. It's almost a shame the crossing takes only a few minutes — this stretch of road over the sea is where the trip's scenery shifts gear.
Tips
The bridge does have a walkway, but for this course it's best to cross quickly by car and take in the full view of the bridge from the Kabeshima side. For photos, the best view is the overlook from Wind View Hill Park (風の見える丘公園), your next stop. Avoid parking on the road — photograph safely from a proper parking spot.
Best time to visit
About 30 minutes. On a sunny day, the contrast between the white bridge and the blue sea is at its most vivid.
