A Power Spot Welcomed by a White Torii Gate and the Couple Cypress Trees
About this spot
An ancient shrine that has long watched over Takeo, memorable for its white torii gate and shrine buildings trimmed in white standing beautifully against the blue sky. Within the shrine grounds stand two cypress trees leaning together, called the 'Couple Cypress Trees' (夫婦檜), and as their branches intertwine, they are cherished as a sacred tree for matchmaking. A small path extends from the side of the main hall toward the Great Camphor Tree of Takeo, and the set course is to complete your visit at the shrine and then walk along the bamboo-lined path toward the great tree. Walking up the stone steps toward the shrine building in the crisp morning air fills your heart with the solemn spirit befitting the start of your journey.
Tips
The shrine grounds have stone steps and slopes, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Since the path to the great tree leads from beside the main hall through the bamboo-lined shrine path, it's most convenient to proceed directly after your prayers. If you wish to receive a shrine stamp, check the reception hours at the shrine office beforehand.
Best time to visit
Approximately 40 minutes. The early morning hours when few people are about offer a clear, refreshing atmosphere throughout the grounds
