A Morning Sea Vista: Husband-and-Wife Rocks Connected by a Great Sacred Rope

A representative scenic spot of the Nippon-Kai coast, where two large and small rocks stand close together on the shore of Kamiura, Saiki City. The great sacred rope connecting the two rocks spans 65 meters and weighs approximately 2 tons, a magnificent scale whose replacement has been maintained by local hands through the generations. The sight of the morning sun rising between the husband-and-wife rocks is particularly renowned, drawing many photography enthusiasts to this famous sunrise spot. A viewing platform has been developed along National Route 217, making it easy to enjoy the sacred landscape woven by the glittering Bungo Channel waters, the rocks, and the sacred rope. It is a spiritually refreshing scenic spot befitting the start of a day in the seaside town of Saiki.
Tips
The viewing platform is conveniently located along National Route 217 with easy access from the parking area, though a light jacket is advisable on windy days. If approaching the rocks, wear comfortable walking shoes as the rocky areas are wet and slippery. Morning hours may have backlighting in some time slots, so it's recommended to shoot from various angles for the best composition.

Approximately 45 minutes. Early morning hours when the air is clear and the sea sparkles offer the best photography conditions.
