A Seaside Stroll at Suruga-hama with Rising Steam from Hot Springs

About this spot

A rare sand-bath hot spring resort situated on the seaside at Suruga-hama (摺ヶ浜), Ibusuki's hot spring district. Steam rises from the sandy beach here and there, and the sight of people in yukata enjoying the baths is a signature scene unique to this hot spring town. From in front of the facility, the Osumi Peninsula stretches across Kinko Bay, and the sound of waves washing ashore gently resonates as the perfect ending to your journey. A pleasant walking path runs along the coast, and the seaside stroll with sea breezes carrying hints of hot spring fragrance completes your southern exploration perfectly. Experience the distinctive Ibusuki atmosphere woven by steam, sea, and sand through all five senses, and leisurely close your day.

Tips

The seaside has strong reflected sunlight, so a hat is advisable. Sandy beaches are difficult to walk on, so sneakers are better than sandals. The surrounding hot spring district has scattered souvenir shops and dining options, and strolling through the area while enjoying the steam views is also enjoyable. It's recommended to look for Ibusuki souvenirs near the station before heading home.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour. The afternoon hours when soft light makes the rising steam beautifully atmospheric are ideal.
