Rain falling on the Kirishima mountains is purified over many years, resulting in approximately 60,000 tons of clear water springing forth daily from this spring, which has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Waters. The transparency is so high you can observe sand being stirred up by the water bubbling from the pool's bottom, and depending on the light, the water surface gleams in emerald blue. The area is equipped with a water-drawing station where local residents regularly collect the renowned spring water—a glimpse of daily life that adds to the charm. Located near JR Kurino Station, a leisurely walk along the waterside allows you to sense firsthand why the town of Yusui is named after water.
Tips
If using the water-drawing station, bring empty bottles or a water container. The pool perimeter is a walking path, but be mindful of small children near the water. Even a short visit is worthwhile, and combining this with Osumi-Yokogawa Station afterward for a leisurely loop is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 40 minutes required. During daylight hours when the sun is high, the blue of the water surface is most vivid.
