About this spot

A small unstaffed station along the Hisatsu Line, its wooden station building has been in continuous use since it opened in the Meiji era, making it one of the oldest in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is also registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property. Over a century of time has accumulated on the darkly gleaming wooden pillars, the ticket gate, and the quiet platform, and simply standing in the station feels like stepping into a scene from a film. Bullet marks from strafing during the final days of the Pacific War remain on the platform's pillars, quietly conveying the weight of history this station has witnessed. Wrapped in the stillness that comes from having so few trains, it's a place to slowly savor the lingering mood at the end of the journey.

Tips

As this is still an active station, be mindful of safety when trains arrive and depart, such as staying back from the edge of the platform. This station is carefully preserved by the local community, so please view it quietly. There are no shops, so bring your own drinks beforehand. Look for the pillar with the bullet marks on the platform.

About 30 minutes. Evening, when the western sun warmly colors the wooden station building, is the best time for photos
