Emerald-Green Sea Viewed from an Approximately 80-Meter Cliff
About this spot
"Banta" is the Okinawan word for cliff. This viewing spot takes its name from the legend that when bundled thatch was thrown from the cliff top, it would scatter in the strong updraft—Kabiuchii Banta is a spectacular 80-meter cliff with a viewing deck. From the observation platform, a grand panorama unfolds where transparent emerald-green sea and white-capped waves outline the coastline in a view from directly above. The blue of the sea below is so vivid it seems to draw you in, allowing you to enjoy Yanbarua's sea from a different perspective than Hedo Cape. With easy access just a short walk from the parking area, this is an unmissable scenic spot on your northernmost point drive.
Tips
Admission is free, and it's just a short walk from the parking lot to the viewing deck. The cliff top can be very windy, so be careful with hats and parasols. Do not lean beyond the railings, and do not take your eyes off young children.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. The sea's color appears most vivid when the sun is high in the sky.
